In this four-week course, students will develop practical audio engineering skills within a supportive and enjoyable setting. The curriculum progresses from recording individual vocal lines to constructing intricate "vocal stacks," culminating in a shareable, polished track.
A compatible iPad is required for this program. A rental option will be available upon enrollment.

Track Recording
Create, arm, and use a vocal track to record voice cleanly using a microphone
Basic Editing
Use Clip Gain tool to adjust volume and Scissors tool to splice out mistakes and silence
Looping and Layering
Use Loop Browser to drag in pre-made drum and instrument loops to create musical backing tracks
Audio Effects FX
Apply and adjust built-in GarageBand effects like Reverb and EQ for professional sound
Vocal Stacking
Record multiple takes of the same vocal part and pan them left/right for a wide chorus effect
Bouncing a Track
Use Share function to export final song mix as a single, playable MP3 audio file
Camp Breakdown
Day 1 - My Voice, My Instrument
Students are introduced to GarageBand interface, learn to create vocal tracks, and practice recording their speaking and singing voices. They overcome hesitation about recording and learn to use undo/redo functions fearlessly.
Day 2 - We'll Fix it in Editing
Students develop editing proficiency, learning to fix mistakes using the scissor tool, fade tool for smooth transitions, and clip gain tool to amplify quiet recordings. They transform imperfect recordings into polished audio.
Day 3 - Building the Backing Track
Students explore the Loop Browser to add pre-made drum and instrument loops, creating musical backing tracks. They learn to layer different loops and understand how to build a complete musical foundation for their vocals.
Day 4 - Vocal Stacking & Final Mix
Students master vocal stacking by recording multiple takes and panning them left/right for a professional chorus effect. They apply audio effects like reverb and EQ, then bounce their final track as a shareable MP3 file.
